I just recently found out about the Harry Potter month celebration being hosted by Kristin @ Super Space Chick and just in the nick of time! Once I saw this, I was looking for something light to read while I really crack down on studying for my exam next month, and decided it was the perfect time to re-read the Harry Potter series. Especially since my mom FINALLY brought them to me when I moved last week.
To kick start this month of Potter-bration, I’m going to tell the start of my Harry Potter reading journey. Well, my jump into this magical world. When I was roughly about 9/10, I was at Costco with my Grandma, shopping. My family knows I am obsessed with books, and on this day I stumbled upon the Goblet of Fire. It was probably 2001, and it was definitely the summer. The book was probably just released, but I had no idea about this genre just yet since I read a lot of random books and read from whatever was at my school’s library or from those Scholastic catalogues that my mom let me order. Needless to say, my Grandma bought me the book. When I went to start it that night before bed, since we can all say we know how the Goblet of Fire starts, I had no clue what was going on. By the time I got into the first few chapters, it was quite evident that I was missing a few books that had begun before this.
After finding this out, I was a bit disheartened. I really wanted to read this book! But, being so young, I obviously couldn’t just buy the books. I had to wait until Christmas. Since my Grandma knew about this book and how I couldn’t read it yet, she bought me the first three novels (from Costco!) as a boxed set for Christmas! I could finally read them all! Ever since I received them that year for Christmas, I basically received every book in the Harry Potter series within the month it came out. I distinctly remember taking two days at my trailer to sit in my tent (I slept in the tent back then, by myself, just so I could sleep in and read into the wee hours of the morning with my flashlight so my brother wouldn’t bug me with the Playstation in the morning) and complete the Order of the Phoenix, and bawling my eyes out at the events that occurred in that novel.
I can’t remember the last time I re-read Harry Potter and I’m excited to get back into the journey again. I love falling back into the stories, and pre-ordering The Curse of the Child that is set to release at the end of the month, seems like the perfect opportunity to do so!
